Sin and God’s Presence

You have probably heard it said that God is so holy that there can’t be any sin in his presence. And, therefore, we can’t be in God’s presence. Is this biblical? Yes, God is holy. Yes, God hates sin. But God is also merciful and loving. I’m not saying that his justice is compromised in anyway, but if we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior we have boldness to enter into God’s presence…even though we are sinners. Isn’t this the good news of salvation? Forgiveness. Reconciliation. Intimacy with God. The more time we spend in God’s presence, gazing at his holiness, the more we will be transformed into his likeness. Wouldn’t it be convenient for Satan to convince believers that their God can’t stand to look at them, let alone be with them (because of their sin)? When did Jesus ever turn away a sinner? When did he ever run from someone caught in the act of sin? He acted BEFORE the repentance, and it was after his overwhelming love and mercy that the person called him Lord. It’s not that God can’t stand to have sin in his presence, it’s that sinners are to ashamed to come into it. Good thing God takes the offense on himself and pursues us. He sought out Adam and Eve. They were the ones hiding. So, if you are afraid that God won’t accept you because of your sin, take courage; he loves you more than you know. The place you need to be, is in his presence. Run to him, for he is running to you!
